The Texas Giant – A Tribute to Americas Coaster
When The Texas Giant opened in 1990, its lift hill was the highest of any wooden roller coaster in the world. It’s structure towered over the skyline of Six Flags Over Texas, its massive presence would help pave the way for the parks rapid expansion into the early 2000′s. After nine years of operation The Texas Giant was awarded Amusement Today’s coveted Golden Ticket award for “Best Wooden Roller Coaster”, setting the precedent for future generations of wooden roller coasters. While it’s time in the spotlight was relatively short, the coaster has become a symbol for the Six Flags corporation at large, having been featured in just about every national TV advertising campaign since it’s construction.
The Texas Giant fell silent on November 1st 2009, ushering in the end of an era for Six Flags Over Texas.
